How to LIVE in the moment

Happy new Month! Already March…damn.

Are you constantly thinking about the future or relive an incident that happened 20 years ago? Are you struggling with guilt, grieve or anger and find yourself in a dilemma, where you aren´t able to enjoy the moment? I feel you. Sometimes I am worrying so much about the future and the past, that I don´t appreciate and enjoy the current moment.

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”

It is problematic

The problem with living in the past is that you can not go back in time to change what happened. No matter how intensively and dramatic you regret what it. It will always be a part of you. Learn to accept it and learn from the things that happened. On the other hand: It doesn´t matter how detailed and precisely you plan your future, you can not do anything to change it or influence the outcome.

Of course, you have some sort of influence e.g by avoiding drinking too much alcohol. The chance of dying from a liver failure is less likely, than if you drank your whole life. But by accepting what you can change and leave alone external factors that you are not able to change, can leave you with a feeling of detachment and it is absolutely refreshing.

What are you grateful for?

Journaling became one of my therapeutical things to do. I start my day by opening my notebook and write down 5 things I am grateful today. It doesn´t have to be always these big things like health and family. It is good to focus on the things that are current and maybe small, but you always took them for granted. For example: A very good friend of mine is an excellent listener and cares a lot about me. I am grateful for her and that I found someone that likes so many different things that I like aswell.

If you take your time by reflecting on things that you love and are grateful for, you automatically boost your mood and think about the present state of your mind.

Earning the fruits

When you decide to live in the moment, you can enjoy what is actually in fron of you. It is raining outside and your boyfriend is complaining about it and wants to stay home and just watch a movie.

But when was the last time you actually were grateful of the rain. Go outside and observe how the soil is absorbing every drop of rain with happiness. Look at the clouds, how fast they changed the color into a dark grey look. Adults can learn a lot from children. Kids always live in the moment and enjoy even the simplest things. They love the rain and start to jump into puddles. How great would your life be, if you would gave the new day your full energy and excitement.very I know that it is easier said than done. But that is the case with everything in life. It has to start. But you should start somewhere.
